Overview
As a Systems Engineer in Network Services, you’ll build and improve tooling, automation and compliance to support Tesco’s global network. You will enhance observability and governance by deploying and refining monitoring platforms and automation. You’ll work with network engineering, security and operations to automate manual tasks and provide actionable insights for compliant network configurations. This role combines infrastructure knowledge with software development to drive data‑driven operational improvements. You’ll join a mission‑oriented team focused on reliable, scalable network services and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
- Own and enhance network monitoring and observability platforms
- Configure, maintain and optimise monitoring tooling for health, performance and availability
- Develop dashboards and operational metrics providing actionable insights
- Identify monitoring gaps and improve visibility across the network estate
- Partner with engineering teams to improve service reliability via proactive monitoring
- Design, develop and support automation solutions to boost efficiency and reduce manual effort
- Develop Python scripts and applications; use Visual Studio Code and modern dev practices
- Integrate platforms via APIs and automation frameworks; explore AI-assisted engineering capabilities
- Create self-service and automated reporting for engineering and operational teams
- Operate and improve tooling for network configuration compliance
- Monitor devices against internal standards and security benchmarks; automate compliance reporting
- Investigate configuration drift and support remediation
- Support audit and governance with accurate reporting and evidence collection
- Drive initiatives to improve service reliability, efficiency and customer experience
- Identify opportunities to remove manual activities through automation and tooling enhancements
- Introduce new technologies and approaches with measurable value
- Contribute to product roadmaps and tooling strategies
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to improve services and outcomes
Key requirements
- Experience deploying and managing enterprise monitoring platforms
- Familiarity with IP Fabric, SolarWinds, LogicMonitor or similar
- Ability to create dashboards, reports and alerts
- Strong scripting and automation skills; practical Python development
- Experience using Visual Studio Code; API integration
- Experience with version control (Git) and secure credential storage
- Knowledge of AI tooling to accelerate engineering activities
- Experience operating network compliance or governance platforms
- Understanding of configuration compliance and security best practices
- Experience with Skybox, AlgoSec, Tufin or similar
- Desirable: BlueCat (DDI) and DNS/DHCP/IPAM understanding
- Understanding of routing and switching technologies (OSPF, BGP) and related devices
- Willingness to work across multiple domains and collaboratively with teams
