As Lead Principal Engineer for HVDC P&C, you will provide technical leadership across a multi-project offshore portfolio, shaping HVDC strategies and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. You will drive consistency, resolve complex design issues, and mentor engineers while collaborating with partners and the wider SSEN Transmission team. This is a pivotal role in a high‑value, net‑zero transmission programme, offering visibility into industry-leading HVDC developments and opportunities to influence future offshore delivery. You will work in a hybrid model with a strong focus on safety, quality, and delivery excellence.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and accountability for HVDC P&C engineering initiatives, ensuring solutions meet business, regulatory, and safety requirements
- Drive proactive resolution of technical issues across the programme with collaborative problem-solving and sound engineering judgement
- Guide and nurture a team of specialist engineers, promoting an inclusive culture and career development
- Promote health, safety, and environmental excellence with compliance to CDM, ESQCR, and SSEN standards
- Drive innovation by encouraging continuous improvement and engaging with industry forums to shape best practice
- Engage with technology providers to understand new developments and feed into future technology strategies
Key requirements
- Proven track record delivering HVDC P&C engineering design outcomes in complex projects
- Strong initiative and collaborative decision-making to solve difficult problems and grow others
- Deep technical knowledge of HVDC P&C engineering, legislation (CDM & ESQCR), and industry standards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management to build trust and simplify complex ideas
- Degree in engineering with Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) preferred
