Are you a Sub Agent with main contractor experience looking to take on technically interesting highways and civil engineering projects across the South?
You will join an established civil engineering contractor with a strong pipeline of work across its Southern Region. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, develop your contract and commercial knowledge and progress your career within a supportive construction environment.
Your new employer
My client is an established UK civil engineering contractor delivering infrastructure projects across the country. Due to continued success and a growing workload within the Southern Region, they are looking to appoint a Sub Agent to support the delivery of projects across Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and the surrounding area.
This is an opportunity to work on highways and river works while benefiting from extensive training, structured development and a comprehensive employee benefits package.
What you will be doing
As a Sub Agent, you will support the Site Agent and Project Manager with the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of civil engineering schemes. You will also have the opportunity to manage smaller construction contracts and take increasing responsibility as you develop.

- Understanding tender allowances and monitoring contract costs against agreed budgets.
- Preparing, maintaining and monitoring programmes of work.
- Assessing, appointing and managing subcontractors.
- Coordinating design requirements throughout project delivery.
- Supporting the management of NEC contracts to achieve timely and commercially successful completion.
- Building effective working relationships with clients, stakeholders and local groups.
- Delegating responsibilities across site teams and monitoring performance.
- Supporting the Site Agent and Project Manager with the day-to-day management of projects.
- Ensuring appropriate health, safety and quality standards are maintained throughout delivery.

- Experience managing site teams, operatives and subcontractors.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate the workloads of others.
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between projects throughout the Southern Region.
- A valid First Aid at Work qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
Salary and benefits
You will receive a salary of up to £65,000, dependent on experience, alongside a comprehensive package designed to support your career, wellbeing and work-life balance.
You will also receive:
- Company car or car allowance.
- Company pension scheme with contributions matched up to 8%.
- Life assurance at four times annual salary.
- 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional holiday.
- Extensive training and professional development opportunities.

Develop your career
This Sub Agent opportunity offers the chance to build your experience across highways, river works and wider civil engineering schemes while working alongside experienced Site Agents and Project Managers. You will be given access to extensive training and development opportunities, with support to take on greater responsibility as your experience develops.
The role will involve working across Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and the wider Southern Region, so regular travel to project sites will form part of your working pattern.
My client welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates and is committed to an inclusive recruitment process. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed where required during the recruitment process.
