Chief Executive & Director

Company: The Plough Arts Centre
Apply for the Chief Executive & Director
Location: North Devon
Job Description:

The Plough Arts Centre (The Plough) is seeking applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer and Director.

The Role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic professional to lead the organisation through the exciting next stage of its development. We are seeking someone who shares our commitment to providing high quality and diverse cultural experiences to our audiences and communities, and to working in an inclusive and responsible way to deliver our ambitions.

For much of its existence the Plough Arts Centre was outside of regular Arts Council England (ACE) core funding. However, in 2023 the Plough was awarded National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status, and is now applying for the next round whilst continuing to be supported by the local councils. The CEO /Director position will be a broad one; it will combine steering The Plough artistically, with the need to be operationally involved, and balancing the commercial opportunities alongside the charitable objectives of the organisation. The position is supported by an expert and friendly team who are passionate about the arts centre and the role it plays within the community, and the audiences it brings.

This popular arts centre offers a diverse programme, and has a 250-seater auditorium, a thriving café and exhibition space, a dance studio, a busy Youth Theatre offer, a programmed satellite space in Barnstaple, and a seasonal Open Air Theatre programme across North Devon.

Salary: Full-time £46,851 pro-rata’d at 4 days a week.

Deadline for applications: 10.00 Tuesday 10th November 2026

Pension: The Plough offers a Workplace Pension Scheme (details to be provided)

Holidays: 33 days (FTE) including bank holidays

Reports To: The Chair of The Plough Board of Trustees.
