Supporting Families Practitioner – Coventry City Council
£15.31 per hour PAYE, 37 hours per week, 09:00–17:30, Contract until 25 December 2026, Hybrid working – generally 3 days office / 2 days home, 5 positions available.
What will you be doing?
As a Supporting Families Practitioner, you will take a whole-family approach, working alongside families and partner agencies to understand their needs, identify areas of support and deliver effective interventions.
Responsibilities
- Completing Family Help Assessments and assessing the needs of children, young people and families.
- Building trusting relationships with families to encourage engagement and ownership of positive change.
- Developing and coordinating Family Help Plans alongside families and partner agencies.
- Acting as a key worker/lead practitioner and coordinating multi-agency support.
- Delivering direct interventions and evidence-based support to children, young people and families.
- Identifying and facilitating access to additional services and interventions where required.
- Monitoring, reviewing and evaluating progress and outcomes.
- Participating in and leading meetings to progress family support plans.
- Working closely with professionals across health, education, early years, housing, police and community/third-sector services.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in line with Children’s Services recording requirements.
- Delivering individual and group-based programmes in a range of settings, including family homes and within local communities.
What are Coventry City Council looking for?
You will ideally have experience of working directly with children, young people and families within settings such as Early Help, Family Support, Children’s Services, Social Care, Schools or Education, Early Years, Health or Youth Services.
You should also have the ability to build positive relationships, communicate effectively, and motivate children, young people, parents and carers to make meaningful changes. You should be confident in assessing needs, coordinating support, contributing to plans and working alongside other professionals.
A relevant Level 3 qualification is desirable, although substantial relevant experience working with children, young people and families will also be considered.
The role
You’ll be based with the East Area Team – Help and Protection at Moathouse Leisure & Neighbourhood Centre, 1 Winston Avenue Coventry CV2 1EA. The role operates on a hybrid basis, with the general expectation being 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. The position is 37 hours per week, generally working between 9:00am and 5:30pm, although some flexibility will be required to meet the needs of families, including occasional evenings and weekends. An Enhanced DBS check will be required.
