Senior Children’s Residential Care Worker

Excel & Emerge Care is looking for an experienced and committed Senior Children’s Residential Care Worker to join our residential childcare teams in Stoke-on-Trent and Crewe.

This is a senior role within Children’s Residential Care, supporting children and young people within an Ofsted-regulated residential setting. The successful candidate will play an important role in providing consistent care, supporting colleagues and helping maintain high standards of safeguarding, care planning and day-to-day practice.

About the Role

As a Senior Children’s Residential Care Worker, you will provide direct care and support to children and young people while also taking a senior role within the staff team.

You will help ensure that the home provides a safe, structured and nurturing environment and that individual care plans, safeguarding procedures and therapeutic approaches are consistently followed.

You will also support the wider staff team, contribute to the development of colleagues and take responsibility for delegated tasks within the home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people
  • Build positive, professional and consistent relationships
  • Act as a positive role model for children and colleagues
  • Support the implementation of individual care plans and risk assessments
  • Promote safeguarding, welfare and positive outcomes
  • Support children with routines, education, activities and independence
  • Complete accurate records, reports and handovers
  • Support colleagues in maintaining consistent standards of care
  • Assist with the induction and development of new team members
  • Take a lead role during shifts when required
  • Respond appropriately to challenging situations and behaviours
  • Work with colleagues, families and external professionals
  • Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with the effective running of the home
  • Promote compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and Ofsted expectations
  • Participate in shifts, including weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins

Essential Requirements

A Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Children’s Residential Childcare is required for this position.

Candidates should have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in a residential or relevant care setting
  • Experience of working within a children’s residential environment
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and children’s welfare
  • The ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Writes and speaks with ease
  • Strong observation and record-keeping skills
  • The ability to support and guide other team members
  • A professional, reliable and child-focused approach
  • The ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations
  • A commitment to trauma-informed and therapeutic practice
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Applicants must be aged 21 or over

Working Pattern

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Working Pattern: Shift work, including sleep-ins, weekends and bank holidays. The service operates throughout the year.

Salary: £27,750 – £36,739 per year*

Sleep-in payment: £57.20 per sleep-in

*Salary is dependent on qualifications and the required minimum number of sleep-ins per month.

Enhanced rates may apply for overtime worked above contractual hours.

Positions are available across Stoke-on-Trent and Crewe, with the specific home location confirmed during the recruitment process.
