Pertemps are currently recruiting for an experienced Forklift Driver / Overhead Crane Operator to join a busy steel manufacturing and engineering environment in Dudley. The successful candidate will have previous experience handling steel and heavy materials, along with experience operating both a forklift and overhead crane. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering the chance to secure a permanent position following a successful temporary period.
The Role
As a Forklift Driver / Overhead Crane Operator, you will be responsible for the safe movement, loading and unloading of steel, raw materials and finished products around the site.
Duties
- Operating a counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently
- Operating an overhead crane to lift, move and position steel and heavy materials
- Loading and unloading steel, sheet metal and other heavy materials
- Moving raw materials and finished products around the factory
- Loading and unloading delivery vehicles
- Supplying production areas with steel and materials as required
- Storing steel and materials safely within designated areas
- Using lifting equipment and attachments safely
- Carrying out daily forklift and lifting equipment checks
- Working closely with production and manufacturing teams
- Completing relevant paperwork and stock movements
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
- Following all Health & Safety procedures and company policies
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Forklift Driver, FLT Driver, Counterbalance Driver or Materials Handler
- A valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence
- Previous experience operating an overhead crane
- Experience handling steel, sheet metal or other heavy materials
- Previous experience within a steel, manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or industrial environment
- Confident operating forklifts around heavy and oversized materials
- Experience loading and unloading steel and other industrial products
- Good understanding of safe lifting and material handling procedures
- Strong awareness of workplace Health & Safety
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking attitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a busy team
