We are working with an established and growing engineering manufacturer in the Sheffield area to recruit an experienced Night Shift Supervisor to lead a skilled fabrication team.
This is a hands-on shopfloor leadership role within a busy manufacturing environment producing large, bespoke fabricated assemblies for industrial customers.
The successful candidate will ideally come from a welding, fabrication or heavy engineering background and will be comfortable managing people, maintaining production standards and dealing with the day-to-day challenges of running a night shift.
The Role
You will take responsibility for the effective running of the fabrication team during the night shift, ensuring production remains safe, organised and on schedule.
- Leading and coordinating a team of Welders and Fabricators
- Allocating work and monitoring progress throughout the shift
- Ensuring components and assemblies are manufactured in line with technical drawings and specifications
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, quality and safety
- Identifying production issues and resolving bottlenecks where possible
- Supporting and developing members of the shopfloor team
- Ensuring effective handovers between night and day shifts
- Communicating production progress, labour requirements and operational issues to management
- Maintaining good housekeeping and safe working practices across the fabrication area
- Supporting continuous improvement across production
About You
We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked within fabrication, structural steel, heavy engineering, sheet metal or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience supervising or leading a manufacturing or fabrication team
- A strong practical understanding of welding and fabrication processes
- Experience working from engineering drawings
- Confidence managing experienced shopfloor employees
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills
- A practical, hands-on management style
- A strong focus on quality and output
- The ability to make decisions independently during a night shift
Candidates currently working as a Fabrication Supervisor, Welding Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor, Night Shift Supervisor, Chargehand or Senior Fabricator may be particularly suitable.
