Job Description:

Lead FPGA Engineer – Hybrid

We’re looking for experienced FPGA Engineers to support the development and verification of complex electronic systems within an aerospace engineering environment.

This is a hands‑on contract role covering FPGA design, implementation and verification. We’re open to engineers with different strengths across the FPGA lifecycle. You don’t need to be equally experienced across design, verification and certification to be relevant.

The key requirement is strong FPGA / VHDL engineering experience, ideally gained within aerospace, defence or another safety‑critical or high‑integrity environment.

Skills & Experience

We’d be interested in speaking with experienced FPGA engineers with a strong background in either FPGA design/development, FPGA verification, or a combination of the two.

Essential:

  • Strong commercial FPGA engineering experience
  • VHDL / RTL design and/or verification experience
  • FPGA development using Xilinx, Intel/Altera or similar technologies
  • Experience with FPGA simulation, debugging and/or implementation
  • Understanding of requirements-driven engineering and controlled development processes
  • Experience working on complex electronic hardware
  • Comfortable working within multidisciplinary electronics, systems and software teams

Useful Experience:

  • DO-254 or other safety‑critical / high‑integrity development standards
  • Aerospace, defence, avionics, automotive, rail or similarly regulated engineering
  • Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus or equivalent
  • QuestaSim / ModelSim
  • Requirements decomposition and traceability
  • Synthesis, constraints and timing closure
  • SystemVerilog / UVM
  • Requirements-based FPGA verification
  • Verification planning, coverage and evidence generation
  • Formal verification or coverage analysis
  • Python, Tcl or shell scripting
  • Automated build and regression environments
  • FPGA integration with processors, ADCs/DACs, communications interfaces or other electronic hardware
  • HIL / SIL or hardware-based integration and testing

Additional Information

  • Flexible around £75-90/hr Outside IR35
  • Initial 6 month engagement
  • Hybrid working – 2 days on‑site, 3 days WFH
  • Principal-level engineers looking to step up considered
  • Candidates can be stronger in either FPGA design or FPGA verification
  • Opportunity to work across complex, high‑integrity aerospace electronics
  • Strong potential for extension
  • SC Clearance needed – Sole British nationals only due to project nature
