Overview
In this role you will lead on-site delivery of contracted works for transmission projects in the Edinburgh area, acting as Principal Contractor to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. You’ll align constructability with design scope and manage time and cost against delivery plans. You’ll collaborate with planning, engineering, and operational teams to minimise HV system impact while driving environmental and sustainability targets. You’ll work remotely with autonomy in challenging environments and help shape project delivery through strong leadership and stakeholder engagement. This opportunity offers hands-on impact on high-value civil works within a major energy network.
Responsibilities
- Lead on-site management and delivery of contracted works packages as Principal Contractor
- Ensure regulatory compliance with Health & Safety Law and CDM 2015
- Translate design scope and drawings into constructive work methods and oversee package management
- Drive commercial management by measuring and monitoring time and cost against plan
- Collaborate with Transmission Planning and Operations to maintain safe work practices and protect the high voltage system
- Establish and monitor contractor and supplier quality systems to meet contract budget and asset life goals
- Plan and manage environmental regulatory requirements across the supplier chain
- Maintain proactive customer and stakeholder engagement with regular planning and reporting
- Support delivery against OFGEM sustainability and biodiversity targets
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to align planning, access, and outages
Key requirements
- Significant experience managing transmission construction projects
- Ability to interpret civil/structural drawings and testing regimes
- Experience implementing QA and environmental processes
- Proficient with PC-based planning tools and MS Office, including Teams, Project
- Experience in civil works within a transmission substation environment
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
- Strong leadership and planning abilities
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation including CDM 2015 and Principal Contractor duties
- Experience with GS6, HSG47, and temporary works
