Overview

As Structural Engineer, you ensure the technical quality of design work and lead a team of engineers and technicians. You will coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver compliant, safe, and value-driven structural solutions. The role includes governance of quality, safety, and commercial aspects, and supporting company growth. You’ll work across design, site, and client interfaces to drive project delivery and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technicians
  • Manage personal workload and ensure timely submissions
  • Ensure design checks meet quality standards before submission
  • Lead structural design on designated projects using timber/steel/concrete/masonry
  • Prepare calculations for Building Control aligned with GSE codes
  • Initiate design drawings and supervise draftspersons in production
  • Review drawings and calculations by colleagues
  • Participate in Design Team meetings and coordinate with clients and design teams
  • Contribute to scheme design and value engineering to meet client requirements
  • Respond to RFIs within agreed timeframes
  • Attend sites to verify construction adherence to specifications and safety standards
  • Understand CDM responsibilities and ensure compliance
  • Understand project programmes and coordinate with design team and stakeholders
  • Assist with credit control and meeting project deadlines
  • Promote business development and respond to new enquiries and quotes
  • Maintain time sheets, weekly workload programming, and monthly meetings
  • Document project data accurately and close/archive projects timely
  • Support QA manager and implement quality procedures at project level
  • Report non-conformances and assist with quality improvement processes
  • Attend training and maintain CPD via ICE or IStructE membership
  • Support senior staff in management and process improvements

Key requirements

  • Experience supervising engineers and technicians
  • Proficiency in structural design using proprietary design software for timber, steel, concrete, and masonry
  • Ability to prepare calculations for Building Control
  • Experience checking drawings and calculations
  • Site attendance and alignment with construction specifications and safety standards
  • Understanding of CDM regulations
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Communication and coordination with clients, architects, M&E engineers, and external stakeholders
  • Willingness to participate in business development and tendering
  • CPD and ongoing professional development (graduate membership of ICE or IStructE)
