Overview

As Area Engineering Manager at Assystem, you lead a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver Stage 3 Define and later stages within schedule and cost targets, while driving optimization from Stage 2. You will ensure design assurance in line with a risk-based approach and collaborate with project disciplines, site clients, and suppliers to meet functional requirements. This role combines technical leadership with governance in a regulated nuclear environment, offering impact on complex infrastructure projects and safety-critical deliverables. You will work with cross-functional teams to shape design activity and ensure constructability and compliance at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver Stage 3 Define and subsequent stages within schedule and cost targets
  • Drive optimization from Stage 2 Appraise to select a single preferred solution and develop Stage 3 Preliminary Design
  • Conduct preliminary design assurance activities per the Risk-Based Assurance Strategy
  • Act as Area Engineering Manager, overseeing estimating, scheduling, forecasting, and producing design deliverables
  • Manage DSA teams in deliverable production
  • Identify and secure additional resources to meet deliverable deadlines
  • Interface with other Project Discipline Leads and coordinate with site clients and stakeholders
  • Support Stage 4 delivery estimates and supplier engagement in Define phase
  • Collaborate with integrated project teams to ensure functional requirements such as Constructability, Commissionability, HAZCON, safety, and environmental standards

Key requirements

  • Engineering background with proven delivery and ability to guide technical personnel
  • Extensive experience in an engineering design environment with lifecycle project delivery
  • Recent experience in a regulated and quality-assured system, preferably nuclear
  • Knowledge of governing laws, regulations, and standards for the nuclear industry
  • Experience with Project System Engineering and a system engineering design approach
  • Familiarity with NEC3 contract terms and conditions
  • Experience delivering cooling systems and CE&I power distribution projects
