Overview

In this role you will provide commercial legal support as part of Softcat’s in-house team, focusing on public sector contracts and related supplier agreements. You will advise on data processing provisions and drive contract standards through precedents and training. The position blends hands-on contract work with mentoring junior colleagues in a collaborative, employee-centered culture. You will operate with cross-functional colleagues to support business objectives and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and negotiating public sector customer contracts
  • Reviewing and negotiating supplier and distributor contracts
  • Creating bespoke contracts when needed (e.g., referral agreements)
  • Advising on AOR and other credit arrangements
  • Delivering contract and regulatory training to account managers and supplier/partner management
  • Providing ad hoc legal advice (e.g., trademark queries, contract termination)
  • Supporting junior team members
  • Contributing to precedents and process improvements

Key requirements

  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales with 1-3 PQE
  • Experience in commercial contracts: drafting, review, negotiation, and advising on legal effects
  • Experience in data protection provisions and data processing/sharing agreements
  • Strong understanding of contract and tort law
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own caseload with limited supervision and work under pressure
  • In-house experience or strong understanding of in-house lawyer challenges
