Overview

In this role you will contribute to the development and analysis of high-performance CPU microarchitectures within AMD’s Core Performance Architecture Modelling team. You will collaborate with performance, architecture, and design engineers to build cycle-accurate models and analyze workloads, driving improvements in processor efficiency. The role offers hands-on exposure to RTL-to-model correlation, feature evaluation, and cross-team collaboration on future high-performance CPUs. This is a chance to deepen expertise in CPU architecture while shaping next-generation processors at a global technology leader.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance cycle-accurate CPU microarchitecture performance models
  • Analyse workloads, execution traces, and performance data to identify bottlenecks
  • Support RTL-to-performance-model correlation and compare models to hardware
  • Evaluate microarchitecture features and quantify their impact on performance
  • Collaborate with performance, architecture, RTL design, and software teams on feature development
  • Develop tools, scripts, and methodologies to improve performance analysis and modelling efficiency
  • Build expertise across CPU pipelines, memory systems, and core microarchitecture components

Key requirements

  • Strong programming skills in C++, with Python or scripting experience beneficial
  • Solid understanding of computer architecture and CPU microarchitecture fundamentals
  • Experience in processor architecture, performance modelling, simulation, or hardware design
  • Familiarity with performance analysis, benchmarking, or cycle-accurate simulation
  • Knowledge of operating systems, compilers, and applications within computing software stacks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; effective communication within engineering teams
  • Evidence of curiosity and technical initiative through projects, internships, or open-source contributions
  • Nice-to-have: electronics or digital hardware background including RTL or hardware design principles
