Overview
In this role you drive procurement value and commercial effectiveness across the Trust, supporting clinicians and non-pay spend with strategic category management and robust tendering. You will work with senior stakeholders to shape sourcing strategies and improve patient care through efficient procurement processes. The position offers influence over procurement strategy across multiple sites and aligns with NHS DoH directives. You will be central to delivering savings, governance, and continuous improvement within the Procurement and Supply Chain team.

Responsibilities
- Support Head of Procurement in governing non-pay spend and ensuring proficient procurement
- Maintain understanding of Trust spend using data sources (Oracle, Atamis, Spend Comparison Websites)
- Engage with senior stakeholders to identify market opportunities and improvements
- Develop and implement category strategies and robust tender activity
- Lead category management within assigned categories and coordinate product trials
- Develop specifications and evaluation criteria for procurement and accreditation
- Create project plans with milestones and risk assessments to deliver on time
- Monitor contracts, governance, and CIP initiatives to improve performance
- Ensure compliance with DoH directives and procurement regulations
- Use electronic tendering systems and collaborate with NHS resources
- Deputise for Head of Procurement when needed
- Respond to supplier/customer enquiries with professional, empathetic negotiation
- Advise on Terms and Conditions and procurement legal issues
- Communicate complex information clearly to diverse audiences
- Support departmental policy implementation and delivery of strategic objectives
- Represent Trust at national/regional events and projects
- Adapt to urgent requests and maintain flexibility
- Manage complaints and escalate where necessary
- Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement services across the Trust
Key requirements
- Professional procurement qualification or relevant senior procurement management experience
- Experience in procurement/category management within a large organisation
- Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex data to varied audiences
- Experience in high-value procurements from conception to implementation with contractual advice
- Thorough knowledge of Supply Chain Management, Contract processes and Contract Law including e-procurement
- Understanding of healthcare customer requirements and inventory management
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
