Overview

As Senior Quantity Surveyor in the Build Division, you will oversee commercial aspects across a diverse Hertfordshire portfolio, ensuring value, quality and efficiency from pre-construction to final account. You’ll work closely with project teams, clients and supply chain to manage risk, cost control and commercial governance. The role offers leadership of junior staff and a path to chartership within a collaborative, forward‑thinking environment. You’ll contribute to landmark projects aligned with STRABAG’s climate and sustainability goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage valuations, payments and cost reports with contract-compliant documentation
  • Oversee subcontractor and material procurement schedules and appointments
  • Administer contracts, change management, notices and risk registers
  • Lead cost control, risk analysis, value engineering and early change mitigation
  • Support project execution planning, client management and progress reporting
  • Onboard and develop junior staff; set objectives and provide coaching
  • Coordinate with Design Manager/Project Manager on design cost impacts and value engineering
  • Maintain WBS and real-time risk/opportunity schedules and forecasted margins
  • Assist in work-winning activities and technical responses for PQQs
  • Ensure adherence to group procedures and governance across site teams

Key requirements

  • RICS/ICES registration and progression toward Chartership
  • Degree qualification or HNC equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract and Standard Methods of Measurement
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Design and Build Building Contractor environments
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Experience in project controls, risk analysis, procurement, cost management and claims
