Overview

In this role you will manage the commercial and financial facets of a rail-focused civil project, ensuring accurate payments, cost control, and timely final accounts. You will work within a site-based team to support procurement, subcontract management, and client liaison, contributing to successful project delivery. The role involves handling multiple sub-contract packages on a major depot/station development in a rail environment. You will shape commercial processes, forecast cash flows, and provide KPI data to drive value for the client and contractor. This is a hands-on opportunity to influence project outcomes and profitability in a high-stakes transport sector.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly process payment applications and contractual entitlements
  • Ensure payments align with contract terms
  • Submit estimates/tender information to client
  • Present Final Accounts and negotiate entitlements
  • Provide weekly cost/value data and KPI reporting
  • Prepare monthly cost/value reconciliations and forecasts
  • Prepare forward work schedules and cash flows
  • Procure, negotiate and place Sub-contract Orders
  • Manage Sub-contractors financials through to Final Accounts
  • Ensure contract letters/notices comply with requirements
  • Prepare documentation for additional payments, variations, and claims
  • Provide commercial support to site, estimation, and procurement teams
  • Liaise with client on commercial matters and supporting information

Key requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar
  • At least 2 years post graduate experience
  • Previous main contractor experience, ideally on rail projects
  • Experience with NEC contracts; JCT experience preferred but not essential
  • Experience on major projects with multiple sub-contract packages
