We are recruiting a hands-on HR Manager to run the day-to-day people function, sit close to our project and site-based teams, and bring practical, sector-relevant HR experience into the business.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the HR Manager will own the HR function end-to-end: managing the HR team, handling employee relations matters with professionalism and discretion, and making sure our policies and procedures are fit for a business of Eastgate’s size and operating model.
This is a delivery-focused, hands-on role rather than a purely strategic or advisory one. We need someone who is comfortable operating across both site and office environments, can hold their own with operational leaders and site managers, and commands respect from the workforce as well as the leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the HR team, delegating effectively and holding the team accountable for delivery
- Act as a point of contact for employee relations, with the confidence and experience to handle disciplinary, grievance or performance-related matters fairly and professionally, should they arise
- Partner with project and site leadership to support workforce planning across Eastgate’s project portfolio (offshore wind, power, oil & gas, nuclear and other sectors)
- Design, implement and embed practical, proportionate HR policies and procedures appropriate to a business of Eastgate’s size, balancing legal compliance with operational pace
- Own recruitment and resourcing for office and site-based roles, working closely with hiring managers across the business
- Manage pay, terms and conditions matters for site-based engineering construction employees, including familiarity with national and sector agreements such as NAECI (National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry) where relevant
- Drive employee engagement, culture and retention initiatives suited to a hands-on, delivery-focused engineering and construction business
- Ensure compliance with employment law and work closely with the HSQE function on people-related health & safety matters
- Report on HR metrics, workforce risk and employee relations trends to the senior leadership team
- Background in engineering, construction or a related project-delivery environment, with a genuine understanding of site culture, project pressures and the workforce Eastgate employs
- Confident, vocal and assertive communication style, comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and holding ground under pressure
- Confidence and experience to handle sensitive employee relations matters — disciplinary, grievance or performance-related — calmly and professionally when required
- Experience managing a team, delegating effectively and holding people accountable for delivery
- A strong people person, able to build trust and rapport across all levels of the business, from site operatives to senior leadership
- Track record of implementing practical, proportionate HR policy and procedure for a business of a similar size to Eastgate
- Sound working knowledge of UK employment law
- Experience working within the NAECI (National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry) framework
- Experience in a business with a significant site-based or mobile workforce
