Job Description:
You will be a technical leader working in the softwareassurance team. You will work with system designers and oursuppliers to ensure the safety, quality and reliability of thedelivered products. You will ensure that the boat’s safety andfunctional requirements are met and that risk is identified andmanaged.
Core duties:
- Contribute to software assurance strategy andlead its application,applying engineering judgement across complex, software-intensivesystems.
- Plan and lead software assuranceactivities, including technical reviews, audits, inspections,assessments and test witnessing.
- Criticallyassess software plans, requirements, architectures, designs andverification evidence against risks, requirements and applicablestandards.
- Influence engineering decisions across the lifecycle,working with developers, system designers, suppliers and otherengineering disciplines.
- Assess software riskand assurance evidence, providing authoritative conclusions andrecommendations to customers, engineering authorities and seniorleadership.
- Lead byexample increasing software assurance capability, mentoringengineers and advancing standards, methods, tools and engineeringpractice.
Essential Skills:
- Logical thinker with the ability topragmatically resolve problems and bring stakeholders onboard withthe resolution
- Extensive knowledge andexperience of Software Assurance Methods and processes, includingaudit and review.
- Understanding of theapplication of software engineering, security, quality and safetystandards including Defence Standard 00-055, BS EN 61508, BS EN61511, DO-178B/C, DO-254 and DO-331.
- There arelarge number of software types and includes programmableelectronics. Detailed knowledge of all types is not required, but agood understanding of the principals of the software lifecycle andthe application to other types of software is critical to the role.
- Understanding of Systems engineering lifecycle and howthis relates to software

Our complex platforms areincreasingly driven bySoftware, assuring the quality of this and the proper integrationis critical to our success. Software assurance is the ongoingprocess to ensure that software products meet and comply withsoftware engineering, quality and safety standards. It is a systemsengineering activity that that supports the achievement offunctional and multiple non-functional requirements and isapplicable to the whole engineering lifecycle from concept designto in service support.
