Company and Role of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Vickerstock are working with an established and growing engineering and manufacturing business in the recruitment of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for their West Tyrone operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who wants greater ownership of technically interesting projects while remaining hands-on with design.
You will work on the design and development of complex machinery and equipment, taking projects from initial concept through detailed design and into manufacture, build and testing.
The products combine mechanical and structural design with hydraulics, drives and electrical/control systems, giving you the opportunity to work on complete engineered products rather than individual components.
Working closely with Manufacturing and other departments, you will support new product development, improve existing equipment and solve practical engineering problems throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities for this Senior Mechanical Design Engineer position
- Design and develop complex machinery and equipment
- Take engineering projects from concept through detailed design and into manufacture
- Produce 3D models, engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Support new product development and improvements to existing products
- Carry out engineering calculations and support design analysis
- Support designs through manufacture, assembly and testing
- Work closely with Manufacturing to ensure designs are practical and suitable for production
- Support mechanical, structural and hydraulic system integration
- Resolve technical and design issues throughout the development process
- Support product improvement and cost reduction activity
Essential Criteria for this Senior Mechanical Design Engineer position
- Minimum 3 years’ Mechanical Design Engineering experience
- Strong 3D CAD experience using SolidWorks or a similar package
- Experience taking designs from concept through to manufacture
- Good understanding of mechanical and structural design
- Understanding of fabrication, welding and general manufacturing processes
- Strong practical engineering and problem-solving capability
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering or a related Engineering discipline would be particularly relevant.
Experience within heavy machinery, mobile equipment, materials handling, agricultural machinery or other complex manufactured equipment would be particularly attractive.
Experience with hydraulics, FEA, stress analysis or machine control systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
We are particularly interested in speaking with Senior Design Engineers, Mechanical Design Engineers, Project Design Engineers and Product Development Engineers who want greater technical ownership and the opportunity to work on complete engineered products.
