Our teams work at the forefront of innovation, helping organisations transform and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that truly matter. n Overview n We are looking for a Lead Software Developer to design, build, and maintain high-quality software to help UK government clients solve problems and deliver value for citizens and the public sector. n You will work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team, delivering user-centred digital services that meet Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and accessibility requirements. n This is a hands-on technical role operating within structured and governed environments where security, performance, accessibility, and reliability are critical to service success. n The role will support the development of a modern digital system that enables secure, reliable, and efficient processing and exchange of information between government services and external organisations, helping to provide customers with a seamless experience across digital and other service channels. n Key Responsibilities n n n Lead development across one or a small number of related teams. n n Guide how teams work, including engineering practices, ways of working, and quality standards. n n Be proficient across a wide range of technical systems and identify the right tooling and approaches. n n Make architectural and build-vs-buy decisions in collaboration with the Technical Architect. n n Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring across the engagement. n n Contribute to the Scrumconnect developer community and promote the adoption of good practices. n n Act as a senior on-call responder and drive long-term resilience improvements. n n Required Skills & Experience n You’ll be working with: n n n Java 21 n n Spring Boot n n PostgreSQL n n AWS (EKS, RDS, MSK) n n Terraform n n GitHub Actions n n Splunk n n Grafana n n We’re looking for: n n n Strong experience designing, building, and operating production software systems. n n Confident with modern development standards, including test-driven development, continuous integration/continuous deployment, and code review. n n Understanding of information security principles and secure-by-default engineering. n n Experience with systems design and integration in complex environments. n n Comfortable supporting services in production, including on-call participation, incident response, and observability. n n User-focused mindset and experience collaborating with designers and product colleagues. n n Experience working in agile or hybrid delivery models, such as Scrum and Kanban. n n Experience working on high-volume transactional digital services, or strong evidence that you can ramp up quickly. n n Desirable Experience n n n Domain knowledge of UK tax administration. n n Experience in regulated public-sector or financial-services environments. n n Open-source contributions to government engineering ecosystems. n n Active community-of-practice contribution, such as talks, blog posts, or internal teaching. n n Location and Working Pattern n Hybrid working: On-site presence typically 3 days per week. n Location: Swansea n Duration: Permanent n How We Work n It is our mission to make digital easy – through intelligent systems that predict needs, automate complexity, and drive measurable value for the citizens and organisations we serve. n Our Values n Collaboration n We are stronger as a team than as individuals.
