Overview

In this role, you will lead Abbott’s analytical chemistry laboratory at a major global site, ensuring fast, compliant product release and lifecycle management for innovative combination products. You will shape the team, set strategic direction, and drive laboratory performance, quality, and regulatory compliance. You will work with cross-functional partners to support new product introductions and continuous improvement. Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for analysts, scientists, and supervisors
  • Build a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Manage resource planning to support current operations and growth
  • Drive KPI management and operational excellence in the lab
  • Ensure timely product release, stability, and investigative testing
  • Plan workloads to meet business and regulatory commitments
  • Maintain GMP, ISO 13485, and global regulatory compliance
  • Lead investigations (OOS, OOT, deviations)
  • Serve as analytical chemistry subject matter expert for HPLC, impurity testing, dissolution, and drug content analysis
  • Support method development, transfer, validation, and lifecycle management
  • Provide technical guidance to Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and R&D
  • Develop long-term laboratory capability and technology strategies
  • Lead lab modernisation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support new product introduction and combination product programmes
  • Represent the site during audits, inspections, and divisional technical forums

Key requirements

  • Degree in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline
  • Significant experience leading teams within a GMP-regulated analytical laboratory
  • Strong expertise in analytical chemistry techniques including HPLC and dissolution testing
  • Experience supporting analytical method validation, transfer and lifecycle management
  • Strong understanding of GMP, data integrity, and regulated laboratory environments
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop technical teams
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills
