Job overview
We are looking to recruit five Registered Nurses to join our Nursing Peripatetic Team, a dynamic and flexible workforce that plays a key role in supporting inpatient services across Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
This role is suitable for nurses who have successfully completed, or will have completed, an NMC-approved Preceptorship Programme prior to commencing employment. The Nursing Peripatetic Team offers the opportunity to build confidence and competence by gaining experience across a range of adult and older adult mental health inpatient services, working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams.
As a member of the Peripatetic Team, you will work across our adult and older adult mental health inpatient wards, providing high-quality nursing care wherever it is most needed. You will be based across a range of Trust sites, including Walton Hospital, Kingsway Hospital, the Radbourne Unit and the Derwent Unit.
The term peripatetic refers to a flexible workforce that can be deployed across different services and locations in response to clinical need. Our Nursing Peripatetic Team provides essential staffing resilience, supporting wards experiencing increased demand, vacancies or other workforce pressures, while ensuring the continued delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care.

You will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to adults of working age and older adults experiencing mental health challenges.
As a member of the Nursing Peripatetic Team, you will:
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centred nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Provide flexible clinical support across inpatient wards according to service need.
- Promote recovery-focused practice, ensuring service users and carers are actively involved in decisions about care and treatment.
- Respond to the needs of patients with compassion, professionalism, honesty and respect.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure services are delivered in line with best practice and evidence-based guidance.
- Demonstrate adaptability and confidence when working in different clinical environments and teams.
- Maintain professional accountability in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Contribute to creating safe, therapeutic and recovery-focused ward environments.
- Act as an ambassador for the Trust, promoting a positive image of services to patients, carers, colleagues and the wider community.

You will be expected to work shifts across a 7 day week, including weekends and Bank Holidays. There may be occasions where you will be required to work nights.
It is Trust policy that for posts that are for a time limited period, applicants who are currently employed by an NHS organisation will only be appointed on a secondment basis and should have approval from their line manager before applying. Applicants who are not employed by an NHS organisation, will receive a fixed term contract.
