We are looking for anenthusiastic and dedicated full-time Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist.

This post will bebasedin Exeter and will be part of the highly supportive Exeter and OkehamptonS< Team, delivering a community speech and language therapy service tochildren and young people within clinic and education settings.

Main duties of the job

The speech andlanguage therapy service within CFHD have transformed to work within theBalanced System framework.

The Speech, Language and Communication pathway consists of Speech andLanguage Therapists and Therapy Assistants working across Devon and Torbay.

The aim of the team is to ensurethat specialist support is easily accessible within the community settings,providing both direct support to children, young people and families, and tothe wider community teams.

Everyone in the team is providedwith regular supervision, opportunities for training and development.

  • To independently manage, withaccess to support from more senior colleagues and the team, a caseload ofchildren and young people in the Exeter area with developmental disorders ofspeech, language and communication.
  • The provision of a speech and language therapy service of assessment,diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders of speech, language andcommunication.
  • To provide appropriate intervention and evaluate outcomes.
  • To provide advice to parents and carers, early years and school staff andother professionals on matters relating to the speech, language andcommunication needs of individual children and young people.
  • To set up and monitor programmes to be carried out by other key workers.
  • To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Relevant experience of working with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs in community / education settings
  • Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to working with children
  • Well established knowledge of a broad range of appropriate therapeutic interventions to treat children
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance /audit
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping

Qualifications

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Health Professions Council Licence to Practice
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups
