Accounting Technician – Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service – Lisburn
About the role:

What you’ll be doing in this role
- Initially this role will provide support in the implementation of a new finance system across NIFRS in particular provide technical assistance in the reconciliation and transfer of fixed assets to the new accounting module.
- The role will also require monthly/quarterly reconciliation of fixed assets between General Ledger and the Fixed Asset Register, including the matching of payments and liaison with relevant stakeholders for outstanding documentation.
- The ideal candidate will have previous fixed asset / capital accounting experience and be able to work unsupervised.
- To assist as required in the preparation of internal reports and year-end statutory accounts to ensure compliance with legislation, financial instructions, and scheme of delegation, policies, procedures and best practice.
- To assist with month-end and year-end accounts procedures to support the preparation of the financial accounts and other statutory returns.
- To assist with the preparation of financial returns to the Department of Health for example AME Forecasts and Financial Monitoring Return.
- To provide ad-hoc financial management information as required including; extraction and calculation of figures and the creation of documents using software packages such as MS Excel or Access, etc.
- To assist with non-current asset reconciliations, including matching of payments and liaising with relevant stakeholders for outstanding documentation.
What you’ll need for this role:
- Candidates must be a fully qualified accountant with full membership of the relevant body.
- Possess a minimum of, 5 GCSEs (or equivalent*) at Grades A*- C / 9 4, to include English Language and Mathematics.
- Have a minimum of two years experience** working in a Finance environment in a large organisation***, to include:
- Preparing journals and completing month-end/ year-end reconciliations.
- Working with a computerised accounts package
- Using advanced excel skills to capture and analyse data for information and reporting purposes.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work with excellent attention to detail;
- Ability to work individually or as a team member;
- Effective communication and the ability to provide timely and accurate information;
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Competence in the use of: MS Office applications, especially Excel; andUsing accounting software systems, incl. fixed asset software.
