About the Role

n

Clarkson Owens Recruitment is working with a client who is looking for an experienced Civil Engineer specialising in Highways and Drainage to join their team in Edinburgh.

n

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality drainage and highway designs across a range of projects, ensuring designs are innovative, sustainable, cost-effective and meet client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

n

    n

  • Produce highways and drainage designs across a variety of projects.
  • n

  • Provide technical expertise and specialist advice to colleagues and clients.
  • n

  • Undertake Design Risk Assessments and contribute to project hazard workshops.
  • n

  • Coordinate with other design disciplines to ensure integrated project solutions.
  • n

  • Assist with civil engineering tendering, including reviewing tenders and developing design strategies.
  • n

  • Identify project risks and opportunities and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
  • n

  • Assist with the procurement and coordination of specialist subcontractors and suppliers.
  • n

  • Prepare and coordinate tender deliverables.
  • n

  • Liaise with clients and design teams throughout projects.
  • n

  • Attend design team, client and site meetings as required.
  • n

  • Maintain clear and proactive communication with project stakeholders.
  • n

  • Share technical knowledge and support the development of other team members.
  • n

  • Keep technical knowledge and professional development up to date.
  • n

  • Contribute to business development and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • n

About You

n

The ideal candidate will have:

n

    n

  • A degree or higher-level qualification in Civil Engineering.
  • n

  • Chartered status or be actively working towards chartership.
  • n

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working on projects involving highways and/or drainage design.
  • n

  • Experience working within a civil engineering design environment, ideally within a consultancy.
  • n

  • Experience using Civil 3D (or similar) for highways and earthworks design.
  • n

  • Experience using InfoDrainage (or similar) for drainage design.
  • n

  • Experience contributing to tenders, including risk identification and mitigation.
  • n

  • Strong technical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • n

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • n

  • The ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • n

  • Confidence in presenting technical ideas and solutions.
  • n

  • The ability to represent the business professionally during site visits and surveys.
  • n

n

n

Experience working on infrastructure projects, particularly within the rail or power sectors, would be advantageous.

n

n

A current clean driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the UK is desirable. Occasional site visits may involve early starts, late finishes or other unsociable hours.
