Overview

As a Senior HVDC Project Engineer, you will work with Stantec’s HVDC Center of Excellence on HVDC/FACTS projects globally, shaping front-end design and technical specifications. You will assess tenders, review design submissions, witness factory tests, and support commissioning while contributing to business development and industry forums. You’ll mentor junior staff, liaise with clients, and present technical insights to diverse stakeholders. This role offers impact across decarbonization efforts and energy infrastructure, with a chance to work remotely and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of HVDC/FACTS for design and operation
  • Develop technical specifications and tender documents for HVDC converters and FACTS devices
  • Evaluate bids, perform design reviews, witness factory tests, and support on-site commissioning
  • Oversee control and protection aspects of HVDC/FACTS and review testing results
  • Conduct HVDC/FACTS studies and assess their power system applications
  • Adhere to HVDC/FACTS codes and standards
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing; maintain strong interpersonal relations
  • Travel as required
  • Lead project tasks with minimal supervision; mentor junior staff
  • Represent the company in industry committees and maintain client relationships
  • Support business development with proposals and presentations; stay current with industry trends

Key requirements

  • BSc in electrical engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of industry experience with at least 10 years in HVDC/FACTS
  • Registered or eligible for professional registration in Canada or the US
  • Willingness to travel; field work exposure; remote work possible
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • High level of interpersonal skills
