Overview
In this EC&I specialist inspector role, you help regulate offshore oil and gas activities by assessing EC&I and cyber security arrangements. You’ll contribute to enforcement, inspections, and technical reporting within Energy Division, influencing improvements across the sector. The position blends field offshore work with onshore analysis, underpinned by rigorous safety standards. You’ll engage with stakeholders and standards bodies to advance safety and operational integrity. Responsibilities
- Assess safety cases and draw conclusions on safety demonstrations; raise issues and plan future inspections
- Investigate incidents or complaints as part of multidisciplinary teams
- Conduct on/offshore inspections and issue enforcement levels based on risk
- Perform EC&I inspections covering Functional Safety Management, EX Equipment, Fire & Gas, Process Control & ESD
- Carry out Cyber Security inspections for Major Hazard risks
- Prepare technical reports/expert evidence for legal proceedings
- Provide expert advice on EC&I, OT cyber security engineering within HSE and with stakeholders
- Represent HSE in standards committees and drive improvements (JPEL/18, Energy Institute, ATEX, IEC61511)
Key requirements
- Broad practical experience in safety-related EC&I engineering and OT cyber security in offshore major hazard oil & gas
- Deep knowledge of offshore engineering and industrial cyber security standards (IEC 61511, IEC 62443)
- Experience advising on compliance with legislation, standards and good practice for C&I and safety-critical systems
- Functional safety knowledge with IEC 61511; relevant certification (e.g., TÜV FS Engineer) or equivalent lifecycle management experience
- OT/IACS cyber security knowledge with relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, GICSP, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor)
- Strong analytical skills to identify weaknesses and communicate findings
- Independent engineering judgement for risk assessment and safety decisions
- Excellent communication to produce reports and present to technical/non-technical audiences
- Full UK driving licence
- Degree in electrical/electronic/control engineering; Chartered status with IET preferred or equivalent experience
