About St Jude’s Care

St Jude’s Care is a family‑run care provider delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care across the South West of England. We provide live‑in care, domiciliary care, and supported living, supporting people to live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes.

We pride ourselves on combining professional standards with a genuine personal touch. Every branch of St Jude’s Care is rated Good by the CQC, reflecting our commitment to safe, compassionate and reliable care.

As a family‑run organisation, we value strong relationships with the people we support and with our staff. Our carers are at the heart of what we do, and we work hard to ensure they feel supported, respected and part of the St Jude’s Care family.

As a Support Worker, you will work flexibly across all three homes, providing consistent, compassionate support and helping each individual live a fulfilled and independent life.

The Role

As a Support Worker, you’ll provide person‑centred support to individuals with learning disabilities and autism, helping them to live fulfilling, meaningful lives while promoting independence, choice and wellbeing.

This is a supported living live‑in role where you will work across up to three different houses, providing consistent and person‑centred support to individuals with learning disabilities and autism. Placements are typically no longer than two weeks at a time in one house, offering variety while maintaining continuity of care. You may move between houses and do another 2 week placement, supporting different individuals and teams, while remaining part of a structured and well‑supported service. This model allows you to build meaningful relationships, gain experience across different environments, and deliver high‑quality care while ensuring flexibility for both staff and the people we support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing practical and emotional support in line with individual support plans
  • Encouraging independence and supporting people to develop daily living skills
  • Supporting individuals with routines, activities and community involvement
  • Promoting positive communication and using appropriate support strategies
  • Supporting individuals to manage their emotional wellbeing and behaviour positively
  • Maintaining accurate records and working collaboratively with the wider care team
  • Ensuring care is delivered in a safe, respectful and empowering way at all times
  • Driving individuals to their day placements or activities

Every interaction matters. Your support will help individuals feel understood, valued and confident, enabling them to live their lives with dignity, choice and greater independence.

About You – The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for caring, reliable individuals who are passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives. At St Jude’s Care, attitude and values are just as important as experience.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be kind, compassionate and respectful, with a genuine desire to support others
  • Have a person‑centred approach and treat everyone with dignity and empathy
  • Be reliable, professional and committed to delivering high‑quality care
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with clients, families and colleagues
  • Be able to work independently while also being part of a supportive team
  • Be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the people we support
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Have a full UK Driving Licence
  • Able to work every other weekend

Previous experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism is essential for this role, as you will be providing person‑centred support to people with a range of needs. This experience may come from a variety of social care settings and should demonstrate an understanding of positive behaviour support, communication needs and promoting independence. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. What matters most is your willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a strong commitment to supporting people to live safely, confidently and independently.

1 Three houses. One job: making the day go right.

We support adults with learning disabilities and autism across three supported living houses in Yeovil. Each tenant has their own routines, likes, and bad days, and their own ideas about how they want to live.

Your job is to help them live that life well. That means getting them to the day centre on time, going round the supermarket with them rather than for them, and helping with a meal, a budget, or a phone call to the GP. It also means spotting the moment a morning is about to go wrong and turning it around before it does.

We already have an established live‑in team, and we’re looking for one more person to join them. You’ll live in the house while you’re on shift. It is the tenants’ home, and you are part of their week.

2 What a day actually looks like

  • Morning routines. Prompting and supporting with personal care, breakfast and medication, and getting everyone out of the door
  • Driving. A lot of it. Day centre, placements, shopping, appointments, activities, family visits. You’ll have a vehicle to use and will be behind the wheel most days
  • Building independence. Cooking together, managing money, laundry, planning the week. We do things with our tenants, not for them
  • Supporting behaviour that challenges. Some of our tenants can become distressed, and that can show up as behaviour that is hard to manage. You’ll follow each person’s support plan, read the early signs, and stay calm when it matters
  • Evenings at home. Tea together, downtime, winding down, getting ready for tomorrow

On average, that works out at around 10 hours of active support a day. Some days are busier. Many are quieter: there are regular days when all the tenants are out at their placements for around six hours, and that time is yours.

3 The pattern

Everything runs in two‑week blocks. On our standard pattern, you’ll spend two weeks in one house, then two weeks in another, then have two full weeks off.

Weeks

Where you are

1–2

House A

3–4

House B

5–6

Off

7–8

House C

and so on

Why we rotate:

every tenant gets to know every member of the live‑in team. When you arrive at a house, you are a familiar face, not a stranger. That matters a great deal to people with autism.

Prefer a different pattern?

4 on / 2 off is our ideal, but we’re open to other patterns built in two‑week blocks. Talk to us.

Your rota is set well in advance, so you can plan your life around it.

4 Living in

  • Your own bedroom in every house. You’re responsible for keeping it clean and tidy.
  • £40 a week towards the house food shop, for meals you cook and eat together with the tenants.
  • Your own food, if you want something separate, is down to you.
  • No daily commute while you’re on a stint.

5 Breaks and downtime

We’d rather be specific than vague.

  • You get at least 14 hours of protected break time every week. In practice, it’s often
