Job overview
In this rewarding scrub role, you will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team to provide safe, high-quality perioperative care for children and young people undergoing complex surgical procedures. You will help prepare the theatre environment, support the surgical team throughout each procedure and ensure that every child and family receives individualised, evidence-based and family-centred care.
You will be a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. Previous scrub or perioperative experience would be welcomed, but we also value your ability to learn, develop and apply your transferable clinical skills. Experience within paediatric surgery is desirable but not essential as you will be given training and support by the perioperative team to develop new skills to equip you in the paediatric setting. You should have effective communication and organisational skills, sound clinical judgement and a commitment to working as part of a diverse team. You will be expected to communicate sensitively with children and families, contribute to safe decision‑making and remain calm and focused in a highly specialised clinical environment.
Main duties of the job
You will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary theatre team, providing safe, high-quality and family-centred perioperative care to children undergoing a wide range of planned, urgent and emergency procedures. Working primarily within the scrub/circulating role, you will contribute to excellent surgical care and maintain the highest standards of patient safety and aseptic practice. You will be supported to develop your clinical expertise and, as your experience and competencies progress, take on greater responsibility, including coordinating theatre activity and leading the team in the absence of senior staff.
