Network Field Technician (London)

Company: Digital Avenue
Apply for the Network Field Technician (London)
Location: London
Job Description:

*The role*

Digital Avenue is a small specialist telecoms company based near London Bridge. We provide temporary, emergency and resilient internet connectivity for businesses, events and projects across London and the UK.

We are looking for a junior Network Field Technician to join our team. You will work alongside experienced engineers installing, configuring and supporting network equipment on customer sites, as well as preparing and testing equipment at our London Bridge base.

The work is varied. One day may involve preparing equipment for a deployment, another installing Wi-Fi at an event, carrying out a site survey or troubleshooting a connectivity problem for a customer.

This is a junior technical role, but you should already have a good basic understanding of networking and be naturally technically minded. We will teach you our equipment, systems and way of working, but we are not looking for someone starting from zero.

*What you’ll be doing*

* Preparing, configuring and testing networking equipment before deployment. * Installing and removing temporary internet, Wi-Fi and network infrastructure at customer sites and events. * Assisting with site surveys and testing connectivity. * Troubleshooting network and connectivity problems on site. * Monitoring and testing installations before they are handed over to customers. * Managing, checking and maintaining technical equipment and stock. * Producing and updating technical notes, installation records and SOPs. * Communicating directly with customers while working on their sites. * Learning new equipment, technologies and processes as our services develop. * Gradually taking responsibility for installations and support work independently as your experience grows.

*What we’re looking for*

You should:

* Have a practical understanding of basic networking, including Ethernet and RJ45 cabling, routers, switches, Wi-Fi, IP addressing and DHCP. * Be naturally curious about technology and enjoy working out how things work and why they are not working. * Be able to learn independently. You should be comfortable researching unfamiliar problems, reading technical documentation and figuring things out for yourself. * Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in doing things properly. * Be reliable, organised and a good team player. We are a small team, so everyone needs to be able to depend on each other. * Be comfortable working independently once trained and taking responsibility for getting a job completed properly. * Be professional and confident dealing directly with customers in offices, venues and other client-facing environments. * Have excellent spoken and written English. * Be flexible about working hours when the job requires it. Our work can involve early starts, evenings and weekends, particularly around events and urgent deployments. Unsociable hours and additional hours are paid as overtime. * Be able to get to our London Bridge base reliably at short notice, including for early starts and late finishes. In practice, this role is best suited to someone based within around an hour of the office and who is not dependent on limited long-distance public transport. * Be comfortable travelling to customer sites as part of the role.

Previous experience in networking, IT support, AV, telecoms, events or another hands-on technical role would be an advantage, but is not essential.

We care more about technical aptitude, reliability, attention to detail and your ability to learn than having a long list of qualifications or years of experience.

A UK driving licence is useful because of the field-based nature of the role.

Salary and progression

The salary range for this role is *£26,000–£35,000 depending on experience and capability*.

Someone joining at junior level would normally start toward the lower end of the range while learning our systems, equipment and working methods. Salary will be reviewed as you become more capable of working independently and taking responsibility for jobs yourself.

A candidate who already has relevant experience and can contribute with minimal training may start higher within the range.

*Overtime and unsociable hours are paid separately.*

Recruitment process

We are looking to hire quickly and will review suitable applications as they are received.

Shortlisted candidates will complete a brief technical and video screening stage, followed by an interview.

For the final stage, selected candidates may be invited to complete a *paid working assessment of up to five days* alongside the team. We do not expect you to know our systems already. We use this period to see how you learn, retain new information, approach technical problems, communicate and work with the rest of the team.

If the assessment goes well, our intention is for the successful candidate to move directly into the permanent role.
