Overview

In this role you will support Softcat’s in-house Legal & Data Protection team by negotiating and drafting public sector and supplier contracts, with a focus on data processing provisions. You will train account managers and the partner management team, advise on contract terms, and help extend precedents and processes. The role combines independent caseload management with collaborative, cross-functional work, contributing to Softcat’s growth and compliance in a tech-enabled environment. This is a chance to shape commercial practice within a fast-moving technology solutions business.

Responsibilities

  • Review and negotiate public sector customer contracts
  • Review and negotiate supplier and distributor contracts
  • Create bespoke contracts (e.g., referral agreements)
  • Advise on AOR and other credit arrangements
  • Deliver contract and regulatory training to account managers and partner management
  • Provide ad hoc legal advice (e.g., trademark queries, contract terminations)
  • Support junior team members
  • Develop precedents and process improvements

Key requirements

  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales with 1–3 PQE
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and amending commercial contracts
  • Experience advising on data protection provisions and data processing/sharing agreements
  • Sound understanding of contract and tort law
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own caseload with limited supervision and work under pressure
