Senior Quantity Surveyor

Overview

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead commercial management on large residential and student accommodation schemes in London. You’ll manage budgets, prepare estimates, and drive cost reporting while coordinating with design teams and client representatives. You’ll represent the company in site and pre-award activities, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with a Commercial Director to ensure commercial success. This role combines hands-on cost control with leadership across projects in a dynamic main contractor environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage project budgets, estimates and cost reporting
• Prepare final accounts and monitor cashflow and interim payments
• Lead liaison with Commercial Director, MD and design teams
• Attend regular site meetings and maintain client relations
• Oversee tender analysis, procurement and sub-contractor packages
• Prepare and administer variation logs, interim/final accounts and cost control
• Mentor intermediate and junior Quantity Surveyors and support team
• Support pre-award activities and subcontractor negotiations
• Ensure accurate quantity extraction from drawings and issue enquiries
• Monitor commercial risks and address issues across projects
• Produce monthly cost and value reports for accounts
• Manage change control and ensure timely payment applications
• Assist with project cost forecasting and reporting to senior management

Key requirements

• Degree in Quantity Surveying
• Minimum 7 years of professional experience in valuations, variations, final accounts and cost reporting
• Strong understanding of specifications, bills of quantities, and drawings
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Quantity Surveying packages
• Excellent budgetary and cost-control capabilities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision
