Overview
In this role you apply your legal expertise within Staffordshire Legal Services to support the Council and external clients. You will handle a range of casework, draft and negotiate documents, and advocate in meetings and hearings. The role balances independent work with supervision and a focus on quality through Lexcel standards. It offers hybrid working and opportunities to develop in a collaborative, public-sector environment with meaningful community impact.
Responsibilities
- Handle straightforward to moderately complex legal casework and draft/negotiate complex documents
- Represent clients at case meetings and conduct advocacy in contested hearings
- Meet chargeable hour targets and maintain Lexcel quality through time-recording
- Supervise and manage junior staff as requested
Key requirements
- Solicitor with practising certificate, Fellow of CILEX with litigation/advocacy rights, or Barrister with practising certificate and litigation authorisation
- Proven experience in the relevant legal area and understanding of applicable law
- Experience completing all aspects of legal casework with limited supervision
- Strong communication skills across verbal, digital, and written media and ability to draft clear legal documents
- Ability to use initiative, work under pressure, and maintain high standards under competing demands
- Understanding of the Council’s work and ability to operate with professional clients
