Senior Underwriter – Solicitor Professional Indemnity

Overview

In this London-based role, you will underwrite Solicitor PI risks, shaping outcomes within a renowned PI portfolio. You’ll nurture key broker and client relationships and contribute to underwriting strategy to drive profitable growth. The position is highly visible and market-facing, offering opportunities to influence portfolio performance and expand the PI franchise. You will work with cross-functional stakeholders to maintain governance and compliance while advancing the team’s objectives.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Solicitor Professional Indemnity risks in line with appetite, authority, and objectives
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and market stakeholders
• Drive profitable new business growth while retaining existing accounts
• Assess complex risks, negotiate terms, and make sound underwriting decisions balancing risk and reward
• Monitor and manage portfolio performance, identifying opportunities to improve profitability and growth
• Contribute to underwriting strategy, product development, and portfolio reviews
• Act as a technical referral point within the team, sharing expertise and market insight
• Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, governance, and regulatory requirements

Key requirements

• Proven Solicitor PI underwriting experience in the London Market or commercial insurance
• Clear technical knowledge of Professional Indemnity products, wordings, and market dynamics
• Experience underwriting complex risks and managing broker relationships
• Commercially minded with strong negotiation and decision-making skills
• Clear analytical skills using data to support underwriting decisions
