Overview

In this role you contribute to high-performance CPU microarchitecture development within the Core Performance Architecture Modelling team. You’ll analyze workloads and performance data, support RTL-to-model correlation, and evaluate microarchitectural features to quantify impact. You work alongside performance, architecture, RTL design, and software teams to advance future processors. This is a hands-on opportunity to deepen CPU architecture expertise in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment with real impact on product performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine cycle-accurate CPU microarchitecture performance models
  • Analyze workloads and performance data to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities
  • Support RTL-to-performance-model correlation and compare models with hardware
  • Evaluate microarchitecture features and their impact on CPU performance
  • Collaborate with performance, architecture, RTL design, and software teams on feature development
  • Develop tools, scripts, and methodologies to improve performance analysis and modelling
  • Build expertise across CPU pipelines, prediction structures, memory systems, and other core microarchitecture components

Key requirements

  • Strong programming skills in C++
  • Experience with Python or scripting languages is beneficial
  • Good understanding of computer architecture and CPU microarchitecture fundamentals
  • Academic, research, internship, or industry experience in processor architecture, performance modelling, simulation, or hardware design
  • Familiarity with performance analysis, benchmarking, or cycle-accurate simulation is advantageous
  • Understanding of computing software stacks (OS, compilers, applications)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear communication and teamwork in engineering context
  • Evidence of curiosity and initiative through projects or publications is beneficial
  • Strong electronics or digital hardware background (RTL or hardware design principles) is a plus
