Overview

In this role, you regulate offshore oil and gas activities focusing on EC&I and OT cyber security to ensure safety across major hazards. You join a multidisciplinary team within the Energy Division, influencing industry practice and standards. The role combines inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory reporting to deliver proportionate enforcement. You will contribute to standards development and expert advisory work, shaping safer offshore operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assess safety cases and draw conclusions on adequacy of demonstrations
  • Investigate incidents or complaints within a multidisciplinary team
  • Conduct offshore/onshore inspections and prepare reports with enforcement actions as needed
  • Perform EC&I inspections on topics like Functional Safety Management, EX Equipment, Fire & Gas, Process Control & ESD
  • Conduct Cyber Security inspections for Major Hazard risks
  • Prepare technical reports / expert evidence for legal proceedings
  • Provide expert health and safety advice on EC&I, OT cyber security, and related engineering
  • Represent HSE on standards committees to improve technical and operational standards
  • Engage with stakeholders and duty holders to drive improvements
  • Participate in role-specific training to understand legal/enforcement requirements
  • Travel offshore ~6-8 times per year; hybrid onshore work when not offshore
  • Meet OEUK offshore medical and survival training requirements
  • Manage personal workload within a multidisciplinary team

Key requirements

  • Breadth of practical C&I engineering and OT cybersecurity experience in UK offshore major hazard industry
  • Deep knowledge of offshore engineering and industrial cyber security standards (IEC 61511, IEC 62443)
  • Experience advising on compliance with legislation, standards and best practice for C&I, functional safety, hazardous area equipment
  • Recognised Functional Safety certification (e.g. TÜV FS Engineer) or equivalent experience with Safety Instrumented Systems lifecycle
  • OT/IACS cybersecurity knowledge and relevant certifications (e.g. CISSP, GICSP, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, ISA/IEC 62443 Cyber Security Expert)
  • Ability to analyze complex technical information and communicate findings effectively
  • Independent engineering judgement for risk assessment and safety-critical systems
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Degree in electrical/electronic/control Engineering or equivalent qualification with offshore experience
  • Chartered status with IET or eligibility to become chartered
  • 3 years UK residency and security checks requirements
  • Willingness to travel offshore and onshore as required
