We are delighted to be working with a well-established and successful business who are looking to appoint an experienced Finance Controller to take responsibility for the financial control and reporting of a key division.

This is a senior finance opportunity where you’ll work closely with the Finance Director and operational and commercial leadership teams, providing financial insight, challenge and support to help drive performance, profitability and sustainable growth.

As well as overseeing the day-to-day financial control and reporting, you’ll play a key role in improving processes, strengthening controls and providing meaningful analysis to support commercial decision-making. It’s a great opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys being close to the operational side of a business and wants to have a real influence on divisional performance.

Responsibilities:

- Take overall ownership of financial control, reporting and performance analysis.
- Lead the month-end process, ensuring management accounts, journals, accruals, prepayments, provisions and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
- Produce and review monthly management accounts, providing clear analysis of turnover, margins, overheads, operating profit, cash flow and key financial indicators.
- Analyse performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods, highlighting variances and working with management teams to agree appropriate actions.
- Lead the preparation and ongoing review of divisional budgets and financial forecasts.
- Provide commercial finance support and challenge to operational and commercial managers around costs, profitability and financial performance.
- Monitor project and contract performance, including revenue, margins, WIP, costs, accruals, provisions and anticipated final outcomes.
- Work with project and operational managers to identify financial risks, opportunities and areas requiring action.
- Oversee divisional cash flow and working capital, including debtors, creditors and cash collection.
- Maintain robust financial controls and ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Support the administration and development of Microsoft Business Central and other finance systems.
- Assist with VAT returns, statutory reporting, year-end accounts and external audit requirements.
- Provide financial insight and analysis to support key operational and commercial decisions.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, strengthen controls and enhance the quality of financial information.
- Support and develop finance and non-finance colleagues through financial guidance and coaching.
- Contribute to wider finance improvement, reporting and system enhancement initiatives.

For this role we are looking to speak to fully qualified accountants (CA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong technical accounting knowledge and ideally previous experience in a Finance Controller, Senior Finance Manager or similar senior finance position. You’ll have a strong background in management reporting, financial control, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and audit, together with a good understanding of contract accounting, WIP and percentage completion methods. Experience within a commercial, project or contract-led environment would be particularly advantageous.
