Hays are recruiting on behalf of one of Northern Ireland’s leading civil engineering contractors with an established reputation for delivering civils infrastructure and energy projects across the UK and in County Tyrone, the company has built a strong track record within power infrastructure, utilities, substations, renewable energy and civil engineering frameworks. With a healthy pipeline of secured work and continued growth across the energy sector, they are now seeking to appoint a Contracts Manager to play a key role in the ongoing expansion of their Energy & Renewables is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive contractor at an exciting stage of growth, taking ownership of multiple projects while also supporting the strategic development of a rapidly expanding sector of the business.

Your new role

As Contracts Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple civil engineering projects across Northern Ireland, primarily supporting works for network substations, power infrastructure and renewable energy to senior management, you will provide leadership across several contracts simultaneously, ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially and to programme whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and client addition to overseeing live projects, you will play a key role in supporting the growth of the company’s Energy & Renewables division, helping identify opportunities, build client relationships and contribute towards the future direction of the business as it continues to expand throughout the UK and responsibilities will include:

  • Managing multiple civil engineering and energy infrastructure projects from pre-construction through to completion
  • Providing leadership and direction to Project Managers, Site Managers and delivery teams
  • Overseeing contract performance, programme management, budgets and commercial reporting
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and framework partners
  • Managing subcontractors and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably
  • Identifying opportunities for business growth within the energy and renewables sector
  • Supporting tender reviews, project planning and strategic business development activities

While most projects will be based across Ireland, occasional travel throughout the UK may be required to support clients, projects and business growth activities. This would typically involve overnight stays when necessary, rather than being a fixed time spent away.

What you’ll need to succeed

To be considered, you should have a proven track record in a Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager or similar leadership position within the civil engineering, utilities, power or infrastructure will possess strong commercial awareness and have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while leading project teams and maintaining positive client ideal candidate will have:

  • A background in civil engineering, construction or infrastructure delivery
  • Experience managing multiple contracts and project teams
  • Strong NEC Contractual knowledge
  • Strong commercial and contractual management skills
  • Knowledge of utility, power, substation, renewable energy or heavy civils projects
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • A proactive and commercially focused approach to project delivery
  • A willingness to travel occasionally throughout the UK and Ireland when required

Previous experience working on heavy civils projects, substations, renewables, battery storage, solar, wind or wider energy infrastructure schemes would be particularly advantageous.
