Class 1 Shunter Driver/ Office Cover Location : Bridgwater Shift : Any 5 out of 7, Nights About the Role We are looking for a reliable and safety-focused Shunter Driver to support our transport operation in Bridgwater.

The role involves the safe and efficient movement of trailers and tanks around site, helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
n
In addition to shunting duties, you will be expected to provide cover for the Transport Operator role during periods of holiday, sickness, or increased business demand.
n
Full training will be provided, and any time spent covering this role will attract an enhancement of pay.
n
Key Responsibilities Shunter Driver Duties Retrieve empty trailers from the trailer park and position them as required.
n
Transport loaded and empty tanks between the trailer park and production areas to support operational flow.
n
Relocate loaded trailers from loading bays to designated trailer park areas.
n
Carry out general yard duties as required to maintain a safe, efficient, and organised site.
n
Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections using company systems and mobile devices, ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant.
n
Maintain regular communication with the transport team regarding vehicle movements, operational updates, and any issues that may impact service.
n
Adhere to all company health & safety policies, site procedures, and transport compliance requirements.
n
Attend mandatory training and development sessions to maintain skills and industry knowledge.
n
Support operational teams in achieving customer service and productivity targets.
n
Carry out occasional local deliveries and collections as required Transport Operator Cover Duties When required to provide cover within the Transport Office, responsibilities may include: Assisting with the coordination and planning of daily transport activities.
n
Supporting the day-to-day running of transport operations, ensuring customer and service requirements are met.
n
Liaising with drivers, customers, and internal stakeholders to resolve operational issues.
n
Conducting driver briefings and debriefings.
n
Monitoring fleet utilisation and supporting effective resource allocation.
n
Responding professionally to queries via telephone, email, and face-to-face communication.
n
Producing operational reports and assisting with KPI monitoring and performance analysis.
n
Supporting transport operations during disruptions, breakdowns, or other service challenges.
n
Maintaining transport records and ensuring compliance with company procedures and legal requirements.
n
Working collaboratively with the wider transport team to ensure operational continuity.
n
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Essential Valid UK Class 1 (Category CE) Driving Licence.
n
Current Driver CPC qualification.
n
Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
n
Strong understanding of transport safety and compliance requirements.
n
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
n
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
n
Confident, professional, and customer-focused approach.
n
Good geographical knowledge.
n
Flexible, adaptable, and willing to support operational requirements across different functions.
n
Competent IT skills with the ability to learn and use transport management systems.
n
Team player with a proactive and positive attitude.
n
Desirable Previous shunting experience within a transport or logistics environment.
n
Experience within a transport planning or transport administration role.
n
Knowledge of transport legislation and fleet compliance requirements.
n
Experience working with transport management systems (TMS).

Why Join Gregory Distribution Ltd? Competitive Salary : £15.00ph plus an extra £2.75ph for any weekend working and for any hours worked between 21:00pm and 04:00am.

An additional £20.00 per shift will be received for any office cover.

Shift Hours : Start times will vary depending on business need- likely to be between 18:00pm- 21:00pm.

Any 5 out of 7, flexibility is required.
