Chief Engineer

Overview

In this role you act as the senior engineering authority for ESCS, guiding technical direction and ensuring a production-ready delivery path. You shape the engineering baseline, governance, and interfaces across architecture, data, cloud, security, and operations. You translate customer outcomes into technical priorities and maintain design integrity through reviews and risk management. You will drive automated testing, observability, and secure deployment to turn demonstrations into scalable production. This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role with a clear impact on programme outcomes and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the ESCS engineering strategy, baseline, and decision records
• Lead multidisciplinary engineering across architecture, software, data, cloud, security, and service readiness
• Translate customer outcomes into technical priorities and acceptance criteria
• Chair design reviews and ensure interfaces and non-functional requirements are met
• Maintain solution integrity, manage technical debt and risks
• Identify inputs, dependencies, and assurance evidence for delivery
• Align estimates, resources, and milestones with the programme plan
• Advise on repeatable deployment, testing, configuration management, observability, and security
• Provide technical coaching and delegated authority while owning overall solution accountability
• Support demonstrations, bids, and investment decisions with evidence of feasibility and risk

Key requirements

• Technical authority or engineering leadership for complex systems integration or enterprise platform delivery
• Experience leading engineering across multiple disciplines
• Maintain end-to-end solution integrity through design, build, and transition
• Convert prototypes or demos into production delivery paths
• Influence senior stakeholders while remaining close to delivery to resolve constraints
