Overview

In this role you will work at the heart of live rail fleet operations to support in-service trains. You monitor performance, respond to alerts, and coordinate technical support to minimize service disruption. You act as the bridge between Control Room, Operations, Maintenance and Depot teams, providing clear technical information for rapid decisions. The position offers a pathway from a technical/maintenance background into Control Room operations within a center of rail fleet activity.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the customer Control Room during train service hours
  • Serve as a point of contact between Control Room, Operations, Maintenance and Depot teams
  • Monitor ORBITA feeds and respond to technical alerts
  • Identify emerging train performance issues and escalate as needed
  • Coordinate in-service train failures during operational hours
  • Conduct remote investigations using ORBITA, OTMR, CCTV and other systems
  • Gather and assess technical information to support fault diagnosis
  • Provide clear technical information packs to technicians
  • Deliver rapid technical support and information to Operations teams
  • Raise work orders in the EAM system
  • Maintain records of incidents, investigations and actions
  • Support planning and coordination for in-service failures
  • Communicate with stakeholders during service-affecting incidents
  • Escalate issues following procedures
  • Support safe, reliable and efficient fleet operation

Key requirements

  • Previous rail industry experience
  • Experience in rolling stock maintenance, train operations or similar rail environment
  • Knowledge of EMU/rolling stock systems
  • Ability to interpret technical information and fault diagnosis
  • Clear technical communication with customers and operations teams
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Calm under pressure and decisive decision-making during outages
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
