Overview
In this hybrid London role, you will serve as the Tech Lead for Mercer’s Client Analytics & Technology team, guiding a UK-based group and collaborating with an India engineering pod to deliver analytics and technology products. You own technical direction, architecture, and delivery while partnering with risk advisory stakeholders. You will drive scalable backend/API designs, governance for AI/ML initiatives, and ensure quality, security, and operational readiness. This is a role with meaningful impact across Mercer’s client and internal platforms.

Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of CAT products from problem framing to release and support
- Translate risk advisory needs into technical requirements, user stories, and designs; manage UAT and rollout with stakeholders
- Own backend and integration approach (APIs, data flows, security, RBAC) ensuring scalability and maintainability
- Provide technical leadership for a distributed team (London + India): sprint planning, code reviews, mentoring, standards
- Drive testing strategy, CI/CD, release notes, deployment governance and incident/root-cause management
- Identify and deliver pragmatic AI/ML opportunities (agentic workflows, RAG/LLM) with governance and human-in-the-loop controls
Key requirements
- Experience managing a team (5+ people) while contributing hands-on coding
- Proven track record as Tech Lead / Lead Engineer delivering production software
- Strong backend engineering skills (API design, data modelling, performance) and secure, RBAC-based apps
- Experience working with business stakeholders in a financial firm and communicating technical tradeoffs
- Ability to lead cross-time-zone agile delivery (sprint ceremonies, prioritization, coordination)
