Overview
As a placement student in the Interior Surface Centre, you will join a hands-on team at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to learn and contribute from day one. You’ll work on real production and quality data to identify improvements in a bespoke manufacturing environment and support daily manufacturing and inspection activities. You will apply structured problem-solving methods to tackle engineering and production challenges and help drive continuous improvement. This role offers cross-functional collaboration, exposure to advanced measurement technologies, and a clear path to ownership of impactful work.

Responsibilities
- Analyse production and quality data to identify issues and improvement opportunities
- Support day-to-day production ensuring quality and process controls for components fitted to vehicles
- Apply structured problem-solving methods (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa) to address challenges
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities to optimise manufacturing processes and reduce waste
- Support development of quality standards, inspection methods, and process controls
- Collaborate with metrology specialists using advanced measurement technologies (CMM, laser measurement, 3D scanning)
- Prepare and present findings and improvement ideas to cross-functional teams across the business
Key requirements
- Studying towards a BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline (2:1 or above)
- Interest in manufacturing processes, production systems, and continuous improvement
- Strong analytical skills and confidence with data (Excel, VBA, Power BI)
- Interest in how products are made, controlled, and improved in a real production environment
- Ability to work with different teams and communicate technical topics clearly
- Proactive attitude and willingness to take ownership of work
- Must be returning to studies for a minimum of 6 months after placement and have right to work in the UK
