Overview

In this senior commercial leadership role, you own the financial and contractual success of major civil projects for a Tier 1 contractor. You will steer commercial performance, contract administration, and risk management while driving improvements and mentoring the surveying team. The position combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership on site visits across Scotland, contributing to stable delivery of time, cost, and quality objectives. You’ll work to secure best-value outcomes and represent a strong commercial function within the business.

Responsibilities

  • Drive commercial performance across a diverse portfolio of projects
  • Oversee contract administration and resolve contractual challenges
  • Manage financial reporting, validate payments, and maintain budget control
  • Support tender reviews and negotiations for best-value outcomes
  • Contribute to risk management strategies and maintain risk registers
  • Lead resolution of complex disputes and ensure fair outcomes
  • Champion continuous improvement in quantity surveying processes
  • Mentor and develop junior team members and promote growth

Key requirements

  • Hands-on experience with NEC two-stage contracts or similar
  • Strong knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 (Options A, C & E)
  • Proven track record in managing commercial portfolios and complex relationships
  • Experience in dispute resolution
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Leadership experience in dispersed teams
  • Strategic decision-making
  • Mentoring and team development
  • NEC2/NEC3/NEC4 contract knowledge (Options A, C & E)
