Overview

As an OLE Principal Engineer in the Rail North unit, you will lead the technical design and delivery of overhead line projects, ensuring quality, cost, and schedule targets are met. You’ll act as a technical lead, coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate OLE designs for Network Rail sites. The role offers growth within a dynamic, global engineering consultancy and a mix of on-site and remote work. You will shape design options, manage risk, and mentor project teams to maximise profitability and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead designer and CRE responsibilities for OLE design projects
  • Develop OLE designs throughout all project stages for Network Rail sites
  • Produce OLE design outputs (Allocations, Cross Sections, Layout Plans, Isolation Diagrams) with high quality and compliance
  • Quality assure analysis, design, documentation and reports to meet client and Arcadis standards
  • Collaborate with other design disciplines for integrated OLE solutions
  • Oversee project team workload and resource allocation including sub-contractors
  • Manage performance of team members and resolve issues
  • Present design options to maximise profitability and drive implementation
  • Provide project-level technical management and approvals
  • Verify complex elements of work and support design integration

Key requirements

  • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or equivalent
  • Experience supervising large overhead line electrical design projects
  • Technical management and advisory experience within project teams
  • Sound engineering judgement and application of technology in practice
  • Ability to plan and discuss ideas confidently
  • Strong personal and social skills
  • Experience delivering to a quality management system
  • Knowledge of design risk management, hazard logs, and safety systems
  • Ability to contribute to engineering budgeting and scheduling and oversee technical resources
