Overview
In this role you lead the development and assurance of clean water distribution models, shaping strategy and standards for client projects. You will work with clients and internal teams to deliver robust modelling approaches that support resilience, growth and capital delivery. Your expertise will drive quality assurance, technical leadership and mentoring within the modelling community. Responsibilities
- Act as technical lead for clean water modelling commissions and define modelling strategies
- Provide independent technical assurance, QA reviews, and sign-off with audit trails
- Develop best practices, guidance, and templates for the modelling community
- Build and maintain clean water network models (steady-state and EPANET/EPANET-like tools)
- Conduct demand allocation and asset representation (pumps, PRVs, reservoirs, tanks) and operational logic
- Calibrate and validate models against flow, pressure, and level data
- Deliver scenario modelling for growth, resilience, outages, pressure management, leakage reduction and investment planning
- Ensure compliance with client specifications and water company standards; maintain documentation and change control
- Lead client discussions, define data strategy, and communicate assumptions and results
- Mentor and develop junior/senior modellers; support resource planning and team culture
- Support bids and proposals with modelling methodologies, scope, programme and fee inputs
Key requirements
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
- Significant experience in clean water distribution network modelling in consultancy or water company environments
- Strong understanding of water distribution hydraulics and operational behaviour
- Proven ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and QA records
