Technical Director for Bridges

Overview

As Technical Director, you will lead technical excellence within the Civil Structure and Bridges team and support regional delivery. You will act as the go-to expert to resolve design issues and elevate project outcomes, while nurturing client relationships and guiding bids and business development when needed. You’ll drive safety, quality and environmental initiatives and mentor staff, overseeing schemes from inception to handover. This role offers impactful work on bridges and civil structures within a sustainability-focused, multi-disciplinary firm.

Responsibilities

• Support regional teams to overcome design issues and provide expert technical knowledge
• Build and maintain excellent client relationships to secure repeat business
• Prepare bids, marketing material and engage in business development when required
• Collaborate with senior colleagues to integrate service offerings for optimal client delivery
• Lead Safety, Quality and Environmental initiatives and foster technical excellence through training and mentoring
• Oversee project management and technical delivery from inception to handover of schemes

Key requirements

• Chartered engineer (MICE or MIStructE) with extensive civil/structural engineering experience
• Proven project management and technical delivery leadership of medium to large schemes
• Experience with National Highways and/or Network Rail procedures
• Knowledge of contracts and contractual issues
• Design, maintenance, and supervision of bridges and civil structures with track record of innovation
• Working knowledge of DMRB and MCDHW in relation to structural schemes and Network Rail design procedures
• Experience in design or assessment of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete
• Experience with grillage, space frame and finite element analysis software
