Overview
As Chief Medical Officer, you will steer Occupational Health clinical strategy within Abbott Toxicology during a period of growth and transformation. You’ll shape medical direction, ensure clinical excellence, and align services with evolving standards and regulations. You’ll act as the clinical voice, guiding policy development and driving measurable value for customers and their employees. You will lead and quality-check multidisciplinary clinical work, audits, and accreditation readiness, while partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver impact. This is a high-visibility role that combines clinical leadership with business-minded, customer-centric stewardship to advance safer health

Responsibilities
- Strategic oversight of clinical services (complex case management, medical assessments, health surveillance, wellbeing initiatives, new clinical services)
- Lead and develop the clinical team with training, competency oversight, and professional revalidation
- Conduct clinical reviews and provide clinical expertise for tender opportunities
- Oversee regulatory compliance and maintain accreditations (SEQOHS, ISO, RISQS)
- Monitor clinical performance via a scorecard to demonstrate value and quality
- Collaborate with UK SLT and support policy development and OH procedures
- Ensure staff training aligns with professional and commercial objectives
- Perform regular clinical audits and ensure high standards of evidence-based practice
- Provide clear, concise physician assessments and reports
Key requirements
- GMC registration with Specialist in Occupational Medicine on the GMC specialist register
- MFOM or FFOM
- Medical Review Officer experience (desirable)
- ORR Registration (strongly desirable)
- Experience in LUL medicals
- HSE appointing doctor preferable for Ionising Radiations Regulations, Lead at Work, Asbestos and Substances Hazardous to Health
- Strong clinical background in OH and current knowledge of statutory practice and protocols
