Overview

In this role you will design, implement and optimise large-scale IT platforms, guiding a team of platform engineers to deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure. You will partner with cross-functional teams to align with the applications strategy and drive incident response, capacity planning and continuous improvement. You will influence roadmaps, mentor engineers and manage vendor relationships in a regulated, risk-conscious environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead IT infrastructure work and allocate resources for new projects, ensuring alignment with applications strategy.
  • Provide senior technical leadership and guidance on platform design, implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Plan and operate day-to-day infrastructure delivery, capacity planning, and service renewal to meet current and future needs.
  • Own incident response for platform issues, drive root cause analysis and preventative actions.
  • Deliver end-to-end service with SLA management, capacity planning and renewal planning.
  • Resolve complex performance issues and optimise platform and application efficiency.
  • Communicate platform updates and roadmaps to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee third-party contractors.
  • Mentor engineers, promote innovation and maintain a culture of accountability.
  • Oversee internal budgets and manage teams maintaining the IT infrastructure estate.
  • Promote risk-aware behaviours and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience designing, implementing and supporting large-scale IT infrastructure and platforms.
  • Proven track record leading complex technology projects and platform initiatives.
  • Strong incident management experience, including major incidents and RCA.
  • Capacity planning, performance optimisation and scalability expertise.
  • Technical leadership, mentoring and engineering best practices.
  • Background in server OS, distributed systems and platform architecture.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and translating technical concepts for business stakeholders.
  • Vendor/third-party management experience; ability to manage contracts and performance.
  • Experience contributing to roadmaps, transformation programmes and agile delivery.
  • Regulated environment experience with risk, compliance and governance awareness.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management, ability to lead across teams.
